EVENT CENTRE

COMPETITION CENTRE (Heikkilä)
The competition centre is located about 10 kilometers south of Sotkamo and 6 kilometers south of Vuokatti. The address is Otrantie 7B, Sotkamo. The competition centre offers services such as restaurant and café facilities, orienteering and sports equipment shops, a children’s day care area, an adventure track (rastiralli), a dog park, and showers. Showers are with warm water. Club tents can be set up starting on Saturday, June 28, at 15:00. Camping or accommodation is prohibited in the competition centre, competition terrain, and event parking areas.
TERRAIN
At the Kainuu Orienteering Week 2025, we will return to the notoriously challenging terrain of the 2013 World Championship middle-distance qualifiers. The competition area is located next to the Vuokatti-Jukola 2027 terrains. A diverse range of Kainuu's hill terrain is on offer. Beautiful Kainuu lake landscapes open up from the tops of the hills, and the terrain is very detailed and rocky. Lower down the hill slopes, participants can orienteer through old spruce forests and flatter areas of the hill. The area allows enjoyment of the nature of two protected areas while challenging oneself with varying traversability in commercially used forests. The competition centre is situated at Ohravaara, where the elevation differences are more moderate than in other hills, and the shapes are flatter. In its surroundings, there are more diverse trails and other clear guiding features in the competition terrain.
EMBARGOED AREA
The Kainuu Orienteering Week 2025 embargoed area is marked in the Finnish Orienteering Federation's Map Register. The training ban is in effect until the conclusion of the Kainuu Orienteering Week on July 4, 2025.
MAP
Scales of 1:10,000 and 1:7,500 for the oldest age categories. Colour print 6/2025. The maps are in plastic covers. Mapping by Mapline Ltd / Teemu Köngäs and Joni Korhonen.
STARTS
The distance to the starts from the competition centre is approximately 300 to 3,000 meters. In the elite categories (H/D16-21E), there will be a pursuit start on the final day.

In the competition categories H/D16-95, pre-selected start times will be used (excluding H/D16-21E). For the children’s categories H/D8-14, start times will be drawn in advance. Participants in the competition categories can choose their start times starting from week 24 for approximately one week. The start times for the drawn categories will be published before the selection of pre-selected start times begins. If a participant does not choose a start time from the start time selection service, a start time will be drawn for them from the remaining available times.
The start lists for competition categories without start times, as well as the start lists with start times for categories H/D16-21E and H/D8-14, will be available on the website www.rastiviikko.fi in week 24.
