What program does Kuhmo and KOW offer?

The first thing that comes to mind is nature and hiking. There are several hiking destinations in Kuhmo and its surrounding areas, including Syväjärvi is well suited for families with children and beginner hikers. On the easy route of the blue trail, you walk along a path colored by ridge landscapes, pines, mixed spruce forests and wetlands.

On the side of the neighboring city in Sotkamo is the closest national park - Hiidenportti. The Lentua nature reserve or Jongunjoki (river) are perfect destinations for kayaking. For those who want to fish, there are options for fishing in Kuhmo's wonderful ponds, lakes and rapids.

Frisbee golf, which has grown in popularity in recent years, has also landed in Kuhmo. There are two tracks in Kuhmo, Kalevala sport center and Mammankaivo, and the sports center also has a training track for three baskets.

In Juminkeko you can get to know the cultural tradition of the Kalevala. The films are presented by Pajakkakino.

As for orienteering, we traditionally offer KOW's open sprint orienteering event on the first rest day in the center of Kuhmo, as well as open sprint tracks from Tuesday to Thursday on different tracks and control points than Monday's event.

For lovers of trail running, you can kick off the KOW event week with the Kainuu Trail trail run organized by us in the stunning scenery of Hossa National Park.

On the event front, Kuhmo's summer is lively because, in addition to the Kainuu Rastiviikko, the 53rd Kuhmo Camber Music and Ethno music festival Sommelo are held in the city between June and July.
